Video

Thomas Campbell on The Joe Rogan Experience

Joe Rogan and Thomas Campbell

Campbell walks through his model in plain language: consciousness is the base layer, the physical world is a low-entropy virtual reality rendered on demand, and the observer is what makes reality actual. The source transcript for this app's message tone.

Person

John Archibald Wheeler

The physicist who gave quantum measurement its most famous slogan: "it from bit", the idea that every it, every particle and field, derives from information. His participatory universe is the scientific ancestor of the claim this app makes.

Concept

The measurement problem

Physics

Quantum theory describes particles as spread-out clouds of possibility until something measures them, at which point one outcome becomes actual. Why that happens, and what counts as a measurement, is the measurement problem. It is the deep water this app wades into every time it reads a quantum number.

Concept

The double-slit experiment

Physics

Fire particles one at a time through two slits and they build an interference pattern, as if each one went through both slits at once. Add a detector to see which slit it took, and the interference disappears. The act of looking changes the outcome.
